Wheelchair-bound woman struck in hit-and-run

SOUTH LOS ANGELES The 52-year-old woman was hospitalized at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center with a broken right femur and other injuries.

Police said the incident happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday near 103rd Street and Avalon Boulevard.

Officer Rodney Jones told Eyewitness News that another driver swerved to avoid the victim, and that's when the driver behind her hit the woman.

Police said, should the driver have stopped, he or she would not have been cited, as the victim was not in a crosswalk when she was hit. Now the driver is wanted for felony hit-and-run.

No description of the vehicle was released, except that it has front-end damage.

Anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle was urged to call the LAPD's South Traffic Division at (213) 485-7417.
