Mother of man with autism shot by LAPD to sue

LOS ANGELES Police say on March 20th shortly after midnight, two officers fired at 27-year-old Steven Washington after he approached them and appeared to remove something from his waistband. It all happened on South Vermont Avenue near Koreatown.

Washington's mother, Kathlene Washington, filed a claim against the city Wednesday, saying that her son: "made no aggressive movements, no furtive gestures..." Court papers don't specify how much money she wants. The documents also suggest that Washington's civil rights were violated.

Meanwhile both of the officers involved have been reassigned pending an internal investigation.
