Grass fire erupts in Glassell Park

A grass fire started in Glassell Park Wednesday afternoon and spread quickly, producing a large column of smoke on the city skyline.The blaze began near the 1900 block of San Fernando Road along the 5 Freeway, just east of Dodger Stadium near the L.A. River, at approximately 5:50 p.m., according to the L.A. City Fire Dept.

Firefighters reported the blaze was approximately half an acre. Crews had the fire under control within an hour.

Metrolink train service in the area was slightly delayed.

No evacuations were ordered and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
