Cat hanging by head in storm drain rescued

April 16, 2010 12:00:54 AM PDT
Animal control officers in Norfolk, Mass., rescued a cat who was hanging by its head from a storm drain grate. They pulled the grate out and tried to free it, but that didn't work. The cat had to be taken to an animal hospital to have the grate removed.

The owner, who later heard about the rescue and claimed Emme, says the cat is on medication and resting.

Animal control officers don't know how she got stuck, but they think Emme may have been chased by something, ended up in an open pipe and then tried to squeeze through the grate.
