Two teenagers killed on Rosemead train tracks

ROSEMEAD, Calif. Authorities said a /*Union Pacific*/ train heading westbound at about 50 miles per hour struck the men in the 8800 block of Grand Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Though police are trying to determine if the men were alive or dead when they were hit by the train, investigators say the deaths appear to be accidental.

The conductor did not see the men until the train had already collided with them. However, the conductor did manage to bring the 6,500-foot-long train to a halt and remained at the scene for five hours.

The coroner's office declared the two men, /*Aaron Gallardo*/ and /*Richard Haro*/, dead at the scene.

No one aboard the 71-car train was reported injured, and the accident remains under investigation.
