'Happy Town' cast says show is sophisticated

Hollywood Wrap with George Pennacchio
LOS ANGELES In "Happy Town," things aren't what they seem to be.

Steve Weber plays a man whose young daughter was one amongst a string of mysterious, and as yet unsolved, disappearances. Weber thinks this is the type of show that TV fans crave.

"The audience is actually in my opinion sophisticated," said Weber. "They've been down this road and they don't wanna see the same thing. It is a mystery, in best sense. People will get hooked in."

Lauren German plays a newcomer to this outwardly idyllic town. But she's not the only outsider to set down roots.

Sam Neill also stars in this eight episode series with many interweaving layers of mysterious stories and mysterious characters. I tried to find out more, but no one is talking.

"One of the interesting things about making the show is they withheld information from us," said Neill. "We knew some things, but we were never told what was gonna happen next."

"Happy Town" joins the regular Wednesday night lineup. We'll see an hour of "The Middle" beginning at eight, followed by "Modern Family" and "Cougar Town." Things get "Happy" at 10 p.m.
