Pomona teen injured in javelin accident

POMONA, Calif. Witnesses say the boy was running around the side of the /*Westmont Park Community Center*/ when he ran into the javelin.

The teen was expected to fully recover from his injury.

A 15-year-old teen spent Mother's Day in the hospital after running into a javelin he threw.

According to eyewitnesses and the Pomona Police Dept., a group of teens founds two javelins in some bushes near or around Westmont Park.

"One of the kids was playing with a javelin and I guess he left it down on the floor, and I guess one of his friends came in a car and he ran towards it and forgot it was there, so it pierced him from the front to the back," said Steven Campos, who witnessed the incident.

One of the teen's friends says the boy was in pain, asking for help.

"He was right there on the floor, screaming. He was like, 'Oh, help, help!'" said Joey Long, a friend of the victim.

Pomona police say the 15-year-old nearly struck some of this friends when he threw the javelin.

The teen was airlifted to /*L.A. County USC Medical Center*/ in stable condition.

Pomona police said there would be no criminal investigation. But they do want to find out who the two javelins belong two.
