The City of Los Angeles may be in a dire financial situation; however, the people themselves are doing much better.A new survey by the Experian credit agency says L.A. residents do not have as much personal debt as people living in other major cities.

Experian looked at the 20 largest cities in America. Experian says L.A. residents average $24,000 in consumer debt. That's $1,800 lower than the national average.

L.A. ranked at the bottom of the 20-cities surveyed by Experian. Seattle had the worst situation. Residents there averaged $26,600 in debt.

The Experian numbers do not include home mortgages.
