3 local hospitals fined for medical errors

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. Staff at /*Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center*/ in Mission Viejo injected a newborn with morphine intended for the baby's mother. The hospital reportedly filed a corrective plan to prevent a similar incident from happening again.

In Riverside, /*Parkview Community Hospital*/ was fined after a surgeon removed the wrong kidney from a patient with a kidney tumor.

/*Hi-Desert Medical Center*/ in Joshua Tree was fined after a 4-year old girl, who was having her tonsils removed, was burned by cauterizing equipment.

All three hospitals face a $50,000 fine, which is a first for each.
