Ventura clerk survives robbery, shooting

A Ventura convenience store clerk is reported to be in good condition after he was shot during an attempted robbery Sunday morning.The incident took place about 4:40 a.m. at the 7-Eleven at 6320 Bristol Road.

Police say 20-year-old Mandeep Singh of Ventura was shot once in the upper body after a brief struggle with the suspected robber. Investigators say the gunman then fled on foot.

The suspect has been identified as a male in his late 20s. Detectives reviewed video surveillance footage in an attempt to identify the gunman.

The suspect, who turned out to be a 16-year-old male juvenile Ventura resident, was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall on charges of attempted murder and robbery after he turned himself in to police.
