L.A. Sheriff's deputy crashes on motorcycle

SOUTH LOS ANGELES About 5:45 p.m., a motorcycle deputy assigned to the Transit Services Bureau was struck by a car and injured. He was transported to a hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The deputy was en route to a non-injury collision between an MTA bus and a car. As he drove westbound on Florence Ave. just east of San Pedro St., a car driving eastbound on Florence Ave. made a left-hand turn and hit him.

The driver then ran from the scene of the collision, abandoning the vehicle. The LAPD and L.A. Sheriff's Dept. have been searching the area for the felony hit-run suspect, and looking into the status of the registered owner.

Suspect is described as a male Latino with long curly dark hair. He has a mustache and was wearing a black shirt. The suspect vehicle is a green 1999 Toyota RAV4 SUV.
