3-yr-old hit by Dodger foul ball has surgery

LOS ANGELES "When we got there, she couldn't believe that we were that close," Briseno said.

On Monday afternoon, while walking behind her mother toward the /*Dodgers*/ dugout, Janelle was hit by a foul ball.

"It was just a nightmare," Janelle's mother said. "The worst thing that could happen to somebody's child."

Janelle was taken to /*Childrens Hospital Los Angeles*/ where she underwent surgery on her fractured skull Tuesday morning.

"The sound it made when it hit her head was just something that is probably going to be in my head for the rest of my life," Jose Briseno said.

It happened while Dodgers catcher /*Russell Martin*/ was taking batting practice when he hit a line drive into the stands near third base.

The star catcher didn't want to comment on camera during Tuesday's pre-game warmup, but he has offered to help pay for the girl's hospital bills.

The Brisenos spoke to Martin Tuesday afternoon after they learned that their daughter will make a full recovery.

"He sounded like it had affected him a lot," Briseno said. "But after I told him she was going to be all right, I guess it took a weight off his shoulders."

Janelle is expected to be released later this week and doctors say she will make a full recovery.
