Man brandishes handgun in fit of road rage

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. The threat victim said the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Luis Matthew Ala of /*Stanton*/, brandished a gun in a fit of road rage. After threatening the suspect at the intersection of Magnolia Street and Trask Avenue, the victim called police around 4 p.m. Ala fled the scene, but police say that a witness wrote down his license plate number.

Detectives found that the car's registered owner lived in the 7700 block of Devonwood Avenue in Stanton. Officers staked out the home until Ala arrived, and a chase ensued. Police chased Ala to a driveway in the 1220 block of Georgian Street. At that point, Ala jumped out of the vehicle and tried to flee on foot.

The /*Orange County Sheriff's Department*/ joined local police in establishing a perimeter. After a one-hour search, a resident told officers that Ala was hiding out in her garage. The victim and witness involved in the road rage threat positively identified Ala as the suspect.

Upon searching Ala's vehicle, detectives found four replica handguns as well as suspected stolen property. Ala was also wanted in multiple theft cases that were being investigated by /*Garden Grove police*/. The stolen property found in Ala's car matched the stolen property in those other cases.
