Carter was charged with one count of /*murder*/, with a special allegation of personal use of a deadly weapon, a knife.
Carter was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday at Compton Superior Court, but the arraignment was rescheduled to Thursday.
Carter was arrested Sunday after family members called the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to report the Mireya McCall missing. Her body was discovered in the defendant's bedroom closet, with stab wounds to her throat.
Carter is being held on $1.08 million bail and faces up to 26 years in prison if convicted.
