Painter Thomas Kinkade arrested for DUI

CARMEL, Calif. The /*California Highway Patrol*/ said an officer stopped Kinkade, 52, because his car didn't have a front license plate on Friday night. The officer thought Kinkade smelled of alcohol, and the artist was arrested after he failed a field sobriety test.

Kinkade posted bail and was released from jail on Saturday.

As a painter, Kinkade is known for incorporating religious or inspirational themes in his work. He has been criticized for seeming to contradict those themes with his lifestyle.

One of the artist's companies is apparently experiencing some financial problems. According to the /*L.A. Times*/, Pacific Metro of Morgan Hill, Kinkade's production company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection two weeks ago.
