Ventura woman arrested for shooting handgun

VENTURA, Calif. /*Tiffany Mitchell*/, 25, Ventura was arrested after officers determined she was under the influence of a controlled substance and the report was not true.

Officers responded to a home in the 300 block of Mission Avenue after Mitchell called 911 to say someone was trying to break into her home.

Mitchell told the 911 operator she was armed and had fired one shot at the intruder.

Officers removed a second adult female and Mitchell's 6-year-old daughter from the home.

They used a /*K-9*/ team to search the residence and found no one else inside.

The child was released to a relative, but Mitchell could face charges of negligent discharge of a firearm, child endangerment, narcotics possession and being under the influence.
