Student stabbed in neck at Perris school

PERRIS, Calif. The fight started as an argument inside a classroom during summer school and spilled out into the parking lot when the final bell rang at 11:45 a.m. Police said one of the two suspects pulled out a knife and stabbed the student in the neck.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery because of the severity of his injuries. He is expected to survive.

Another student, the victim's friend, was punched in the chin. A group of students gathered around, and some tried to break up the fight.

School security rushed to the scene, but the suspects had already fled. The /*Riverside County Sheriff's Department*/ said detectives know the identity of the two teenage suspects, who are students at the school.

It was unclear what the argument was about that started the fight.
