Repairman charged in I.E. freeway shootings

HESPERIA, Calif. William Matthew Frye, 40, was charged with five felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism and discharge of a BB device with gross negligence.

The /*Hesperia*/ cable repairman was arrested Thursday after drivers reported seeing him fire at cars on Interstate 15. Prosecutors say he's responsible for dozens of shootings on Inland Empire freeways over the last few months.

No one was hurt in the attacks, but many vehicles were damaged.

Authorities say they believe Frye is responsible for a series of pellet and BB gun shootings along interstates 10, 15, and 215 and state highways 60 and 91 in recent weeks.

Investigators say they aren't sure of a motive.
