Woman's body found in grass fire off 210 Fwy

CLAREMONT, Calif. The /*Los Angeles Sheriff's Department*/ has not said whether they have been able to identify who the woman is, nor have they said anything about identifying a suspect.

The body was found about 30 feet off the road near the Baseline Road exit at 3:56 a.m. The body has since been removed from off the side of the freeway.

Exactly what happened or how the body got there remains a mystery.

"We don't know if the person was dumped here, whether the crime took place here, we don't know," said Sheriff's department Lt. Mike Rosson. "Only time will tell."

Drivers called 911 after seeing flames in the area. When firefighters doused the small fire, they discovered the charred human remains.

A witness reported to authorities that they saw a white sport utility vehicle driving from the scene.

"We don't know if that's a passerby, we have no information on that at this time," Rosson said. "That white SUV is not a suspect vehicle at this point in time. We don't know what the involvement is."

No further information was available Tuesday afternoon. Authorities said very little about what they found at the crime scene.

As a helicopter surveyed the scene from above, the arson squad worked on the ground, hoping to find any evidence to help them learn more about what happened.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Unit took over the investigation. Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to call (323) 890-5500.
