Mom witnesses son's fatal hit-and-run in L.A.

SOUTH LOS ANGELES Police said Natanael Garcia was walking in a marked crosswalk at 76th and Hoover streets when a female /*driver*/, traveling eastbound on 76th, made a left turn onto Hoover and hit him at 2:30 p.m.

Natanael was the youngest of seven children.

The victim's mother Alba Garcia said she and her neighbor were waiting at 76th and Hoover streets for their sons to come home from school - something they did every day.

She said she saw a large SUV hit her son, stop briefly, then speed off, leaving her son to die on the street.

A makeshift memorial of candles and flowers marked the spot where Natanael was killed.

Witnesses described the driver as a Latino female with a long ponytail. Her vehicle is described as a black or dark blue large SUV with tan trim around the lower bottom and stock wheels.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (877) LAPD-24-7.
