Thirty-three-year-old Reza Lavasani Dana was jogging with a friend on Thursday near the area where the body was found. Temperatures rose to 101 degrees that day.
The friend lost track of Dana during the run and reported him missing. Search crews scoured the area through the weekend. Dana was unfamiliar with the area and was not carrying any identification or a cell phone when he went missing.
Officials emphasize that the positive identification has not been established. Authorities have contacted the coroner but say homicide investigators are not involved because there were no immediate signs of foul play.
Dana had been visiting the San Diego area for around a week.
