L.A. billionaire victim of identity theft

LOS ANGELES Authorities say a man stole Bren's $1.4 million tax-refund check and set up bank accounts in his name earlier this year. Federal documents show the man deposited the refund check into one of the accounts, and then transferred the money out.

Surveillance cameras captured a picture of the suspect, who does not look like Bren.

Bren is the chairman of the Irvine Company, a private real estate firm that owns more than 85 million square feet of real estate in Southern California. Forbes lists him as the 45th wealthiest man in the world, with a net worth of close to $12 billion.

He will not be held responsible for the stolen money.
