City to pull plug on LB band due to budget

LONG BEACH, Calif. The band gave one of its 27 free summer concerts at El Dorado Park on Friday with 2000 people in attendance.

Next Friday's concert could be its last, as city officials try to close a multi-million dollar budget gap. The city says the $480,000 spent on the 40-member band is too much.

A budget hearing next week could mean the end with smaller music acts taking over.

So after 100 years, a band that's been around longer than the L.A. Philharmonic may be history.

Residents say it would be a terrible loss.
