Judge blocks Schwarzenegger's furlough order

SACRAMENTO, Calif. The restraining order prevents the governor from requiring state workers to take three unpaid leave days off per month slated to begin this week.

The governor's office filed an appeal on Tuesday against the restraining order to keep the /*furloughs*/ on schedule for Friday.

The new furloughs would be the second set ordered by the governor since 2009. Under the order, departments that collect revenue and members of six unions that have agreed to take one unpaid day of personal leave per month would be exempt.

State workers were furloughed a total of 46 days between February 2009 and June, which translated to pay cuts of about 14 percent.
