AVALON, Calif. --
The Los Angeles County coroner confirmed on Tuesday that a body found off Santa Catalina Island last week is that of a missing O.C. boater. The U.S. Coast Guard
said Frank Cipriano's body was found Aug. 11, three days after he was reported missing from a 46-foot yacht anchored in Cherry Cove.
Authorities said Cipriano and his two dogs were going to Two Harbors for supplies in a dinghy. However, the dogs were found on the yacht and the dinghy was found empty at Eagle Reef, approximately a mile from Cherry Cove.
The Coast Guard searched for more than 40 hours but turned up nothing.
Authorities said Cipriano, a Dana Point resident, was an experienced boater.
He was piloting a yacht called "Indecent Proposal," hired by a couple for the weekend to take them from Marina del Rey to Santa Catalina Island.
