Teen arrested in Orange County burglary spree

SANTA ANA, Calif. The Santa Ana Police Burglary Unit noticed an increase in burglaries in the north end of the city, staring in March . The break-ins occured in the morning and early afternoon while residents were usually at work, or away from home.

Last week investigators identified a suspect through fingerprints left at a burglary scene.

Wednesday, police arrested a 17-year-old boy as he left his home. Police say their investigation linked him to 13 Santa Ana burglaries, and three in Garden Grove.

Police say most of the victims have been notified, and some were able to recover their stolen property, including an expensive watch the suspect was wearing when he was arrested. The total value of items taken is estimated at more than $100,000.

Detectives report the teen targeted homes with unlocked doors and windows.
