Assault on deputies turns fatal for IE man

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. Just after midnight Saturday San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies received a report that Casey Demorest had been arguing with his wife in San Bernardino and had been threatening suicide. When they arrived on scene they found that he had several knives and were told that he was an ex-Marine and that he knew how to use them.

The deputies commanded Demorest to drop the weapons but he did not comply. They attempted to use a Taser on him but it was ineffective in subduing him. The suspect then charged at the deputies with a knife in each hand and the deputies fired at him.

Demorest died at the scene. The San Bernardino Sheriff's Homicide Detectives were conducting an investigation into the shooting.

Anyone with information was asked to call Detective Steve Pennington or Sgt. Don Lupear at (909) 287-3598. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may contact the WE-TIP Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463).
