Fantasia denies reports she is a homewrecker

LOS ANGELES Fantasia is trying to focus on the positive. The singer has a new album, "Back to Me" that will be released Tuesday. But it was just two weeks ago that she was hospitalized after overdosing on a mixture of aspirin and sleeping pills.

In a new interview for VH1's "Behind the Music," Fantasia says she knew what she was doing and that she wanted to die.

"I didn't have fight in me. I didn't care about anything," said Fantasia. "I just wanted out. I wanted it to be over."

Fantasia was overwhelmed after she was publicly blamed for the breakup of her most recent boyfriend's marriage. She claims Antwan Cook had told her he was separated from his wife during their relationship.

The 26-year-old said she was so devastated and upset about lies being spread about her that she couldn't function anymore.

"I just sat in the closet and looked at the mirror and took all the pills in the bottle. I wanted to go to sleep and just be at peace," said Fantasia. "I knew exactly what I was doing. You can't accidentally take a whole bottle of pills."

Fantasia says it was the nurse who took care of her at the hospital following her overdose who became her saving grace.

"She didn't tell me what I wanted to hear. She told me what I needed to hear," said Fantasia. And she looked at me and said, 'You gotta get up, and you've gotta get out of here because you haven't fulfilled your destiny.' "

Her focus is now on her new album. She is in therapy, and said she's now better able to cope with her problems.

You can see Fantasia perform Tuesday on "Good Morning America."
