No change of venue in Oxnard shooting case

VENTURA, Calif. Judge Charles Campbell denied the defense's request to move the trial of 15-year-old Brandon McInerney, who is charged with first degree murder in the death of classmate Lawrence King. King was known to act effeminately and was identified by classmates as being a homosexual.

The defense had argued they couldn't get a fair trial in Ventura County because of heightened publicity surrounding the case.

However the defense attorneys did agree with the judge's recommendation that jurors be picked from neighboring Santa Barbara County and then be paneled to the Ventura courthouse.

"I think that he shares our concerns that we want to make sure that brandon receives a fair an impartial trial," said attorney Scott Wippert.
