Brush fire near Murrieta prompts road closure

MURRIETA, Calif. The fire was burning near the /*Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve*/ west of Murrieta.

The fire reportedly started at approximately 1:15 p.m., according to the /*Riverside County Fire Dept.*/

Firefighters on scene reported the fire was burning at a moderate rate in dense brush.

There were at least 250 firefighters on scene, as well as six air-tankers and three helicopters. Two bulldozers were also assisting firefighting efforts.

The fire started near Clinton Keith Rd. and Avenida La Cresta, according to the fire dept.

The /*California Highway Patrol*/ was expected to close Clinton Keith Rd. at Bear Creek Rd.

Fire agencies asked SoCal Edison to shut power off in the area as a safety precaution. As a result, there was electrical service interruptions for about 1,000 customers in the area.

No injuries were reported.

No structures were reported threatened.
