Firefighters battle furniture warehouse blaze

LOS ANGELES Firefighters used power saws to cut through a gate and a door to get to the blaze, which was reported at 12:33 a.m. near Sixth and Mateo streets.

Flames spread quickly through the roof of the warehouse, which was located in a complex of buildings. The building served as a manufacturing and storage facility for Peter Alexander Furniture.

More than 80 L.A. City Firefighters responded and declared a knockdown at 1:06 a.m., according to a fire Department spokesman.

No injuries were reported.

Damage from the fire was estimated at $275,000. An investigation was under way to determine the cause of the blaze.
