L.A. Co. confirms first 2010 West Nile case

LOS ANGELES The patient, who lives in /*East Los Angeles*/, started showing symptoms mid-August.

The teen has since recovered.

The virus is primarily spread through mosquito bites, so infectious disease experts say prevention is key.

  • Wear long sleeved shirts and long pants outdoors.
  • Don't allow water to collect outdoors in old tires, flowerpots, birdbaths or pet bowls.
  • Stock garden ponds with goldfish or other mosquito eating fish.
