LOS ANGELES --Los Angeles County is confirming its first symptomatic human case of West Nile Virus for 2010.The patient, who lives in East Los Angeles, started showing symptoms mid-August.
The teen has since recovered.
The virus is primarily spread through mosquito bites, so infectious disease experts say prevention is key.
- Wear long sleeved shirts and long pants outdoors.
- Don't allow water to collect outdoors in old tires, flowerpots, birdbaths or pet bowls.
- Stock garden ponds with goldfish or other mosquito eating fish.
