Bobcat starts 5-acre fire in Ventura County

PIRU, Calif. Firefighters say the animal was likely chasing an owl or another bird when it touched the power lines, caught fire and fell to the ground in a remote area near Piru.

The fire was first reported at 3:36 a.m. Monday at the top of Torrey Peak. It took more than 40 firefighters about five hours to put out the blaze.

No homes were damaged or threatened and no one was hurt. The charred body of the bobcat was found beneath the power lines.
