AVALON, Calif. --
Passenger service between Newport Beach and Catalina Island will continue this fall. The Catalina Flyer
feared it would have to shut down for several months in order to install a new engine to comply with state environmental laws.
However, operators were able to find a replacement boat.
It's much smaller, so reservations will be necessary on the popular catamaran which makes daily trips to the island.
Other companies serve Catalina from Marina del Rey, San Pedro, Long Beach, Dana Point and San Diego.
