'Balding Bandit' arrested at Hesperia home

LA MIRADA, Calif. Authorities said 44-year-old Steven Gary Platis of Whittier was taken into custody at a home in Hesperia at about 12:30 a.m. and is being held on $520,000 bail.

The robberies happened at a Chase branch in May and July, and then again at a Banco Popular on Sept. 7. In the robberies, Platis allegedly handed notes to the tellers, threatening that he had a weapon.

The /*FBI*/ dubbed him the "Balding Bandit" because of his apparent receding hairline.

Platis is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at Downey Courthouse
