Solar-powered pay-to-park stations in Ventura

VENTURA, Calif. There were 62 of the devices activated.

The stations serve stretches of downtown Ventura, including along Main St. to Ash St., and on side streets between Poli and Santa Clara streets, near the Museum of Ventura County.

The money brought in from the parking stations was to be allotted for downtown infrastructure and quality improvements, such as cleaner sidewalks, improvements to alleys and parking lots, landscape beautification and paying for increased downtown security.

Of 4,800 downtown parking spaces, the new pay stations serve 400 of them.

The hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. The rate is to be $1 for the first hour, $1.50 for each additional hour, with no time restrictions.
