Big-rig crash causes nearly 7-hr closure

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

The crash was reported at about 4 a.m. on the 101 North, just north of Beaudry Avenue. L.A. City Fire's dispatch said the driver of a big rig crashed into a center divider, and then the load caught fire. It is unknown what the load was, but it was highly flammable.

Fire crews responded and doused the flames, but crews had to clear the accident. A lot of debris was left on the roadway from the incident.

The driver of the big rig was taken to a local hospital in unknown condition.

The southbound lanes of the freeway were reopened at about 5 a.m. Northbound lanes were reopened at about 10:30 a.m.

The cause of the accident has not been determined.
