Hemet to host backyard compost workshop

HEMET, Calif. The workshop will show attendees the benefit and methods of recycling organic materials like yard trimmings and fruit and vegetable waste into soil conditioner well-suited for garden, lawn and house plant soils.

The compost process takes organic material and mixes it in a bin or a pile where it is turned into a nutrient-rich soil supplement by millions of microbes.

Volunteers with experience in composting will lead the workshop, and low-cost bins will be sold for Riverside County residents.

The free "how-to" workshop will be held at the Hemet Public Library at 300 E. Latham Ave. The workshop is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25.
