According to his publicist and a family statement, Cannell died Thursday night at his home in Pasadena from complications associated with melanoma.
For three decades, Cannell was the man behind dozens of television series including, "The Rockford Files" and "The A-Team."
In recent years, he focused his attention to writing books and published 16 of them.
