Will Ferrell, superheroes break world record

October 2, 2010 12:00:00 AM PDT
Will Ferrell and hundreds of costumed revelers filled Nokia Plaza in downtown's L.A. Live Saturday morning. Their mission was to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of superheroes.

It was a promotional event for Dreamworks' upcoming release "Megamind."

It took at least 1,501 superheroes of all ages to break the old record.

Ferrell, who stars in the animated feature, made a grand entrance and gave the crowd the good news.

"You and you alone have broken the Guinness Book of World Records today, right now, and everyone in a Spiderman outfit wins a new car! No? Oh okay, I was mistaken," Ferrell said.

"It's very impressive that people would come out and have a great time and it's a great kick-off for the movie," Ferrell added.

"Megamind" opens in theaters Nov. 5.
