Bomb threat shuts Los Angeles St. in downtown

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES The street was closed between Ninth Street and Olympic Boulevard. A suspicious backpack was reported on the sidewalk at about 8 a.m., but a bomb squad determined there were no explosives in the pack.

Officers detained and questioned two men who were found near the package, but it's unclear if they had any role in the incident.

A bomb squad used a robot to help determine what was inside. Police did not say what was found inside the backpack.

The area was declared safe shortly after 10 a.m. and the street was reopened, according to police.
