Name change request solves missing child case

WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. Eva Marie Fiedler, 31, walked into the courthouse in Washoe County this week seeking a marriage license and name change.

A routine check showed Fiedler was listed as a missing endangered person.

In fact, she'd been missing since age 6, when her mother took her from a child custody hearing in New Jersey.

Within hours, police tracked down the mother near /*Lake Tahoe*/. She had been using a fake name.

"Through the investigation she finally admitted who she was and subsequently was taken into custody," said Capt. David Nikoley of the Washoe County sheriff's office.

Authorities said Nancy Fiedler had used fake identities for her and her daughter, but it appears the daughter was never in danger.

Nancy Fiedler is in jail facing extradition to New Jersey.
