DOWNEY, Calif. --
A truck that ran a red light slammed into a motorcyclist early Friday morning in Downey, killing him. Police said a 2001 GMC truck ran a red light at the intersection of Florence Avenue and Paramount Boulevard at about 2 a.m., hitting the 23-year-old motorcyclist who was driving southbound on Paramount Boulevard.
Officers said the driver of the truck, a 31-year-old man from L.A., tried to leave the scene, but was arrested moments later on suspicion of felony drunk driving.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was declared dead. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
