Man defies arrest, snatches Ventura cop's gun

VENTURA, Calif. The incident started when 49-year-old Kevin Blair threatened a Gold Coast Transit bus driver by swinging around a metal bar and breaking a rearview mirror on the bus.

Around noon, /*Ventura police*/ arrived at the scene at the bus depot adjacent to the Pacific View Mall.

According to a police statement, officers found Blair by matching the description of witnesses. Blair was walking several blocks away on the 2800 block of E. Main Street. Police said Blair dropped the metal pipe when ordered to by authorities, but he confronted the officers and challenged them to shoot him.

Police said Blair then tried to grab the firearms of two officers before a fourth officer arrived on scene and attempted to subdue him with a Taser. It had no apparent effect, but officers eventually gained control of Blair's arms and arrested him.

One of the four officers involved sustained minor injuries.

Blair was later booked at the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of felony resisting a police officer, attempting to remove an officer's firearm and felony vandalism.
