Slain elderly couple in Hawthorne identified

HAWTHORNE, Calif. The bodies of Leamond Turnage, 69, and his wife Robyn, 57, were discovered around 4 p.m. Friday in their home on the 4100 block of West 142nd Street. Police believe that the couple was likely killed Thursday afternoon.

Relatives were worried about the couple after they were unable to get a hold of them.

Neighbors said the couple traveled a lot and were often not at home. The murders have residents in complete shock.

"When things happen like that, it's scary," said neighbor Agripin Iniquez. "Sometimes, we leave the doors open, and when those things happen, you have to watch out."

Investigators are not saying anything yet about how the couple died.

"I didn't see anything," said neighbor Abid Miraj. "It was very quiet."

"First of all, why?" asked neighbor Sandra Albardo. "They were very quiet people."

Authorities are trying to determine if the murders are linked to a home invasion robbery that happened in September in the same area.

A man in his 80s died of a heart attack after the robber assaulted him and tied him up. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

Surveillance footage shot from a home across the street from last month's invasion shows a tall, slender man leaving the home carrying a brief case. Deputies believe that he could be the man responsible for that attack.
