A few moments after he stepped outside just before midnight, Marcos' cousin heard gunshots.
Paramedics rushed Marcos to the hospital, but he did not survive.
Some of Marcos relatives gathered where he was shot to pray and building a small memorial.
"He was a family man," said Marcos' nephew, Richard Lopez. "He was a hard worker."
Family members said he was a father of three.
Police don't know who shot him or why, and they're asking for any information that could help them track down the shooter.
