Video shows suspect in transgender attack

LOS ANGELES It happened about 1 a.m. on Oct. 4 in the Fairfax Village area on La Brea Avenue, just north of Melrose Avenue.

The video shows the victim running down a sidewalk before a group of people congregate.

The suspect is seen taking off his shirt and giving it to another woman who appears to be bleeding. Then the suspect chases after the victim.

He's accused of knocking the woman to the ground, kicking her in the face, then striking her head with a bottle.

The victim's injuries include a broken jaw.

"The attack was extremely violent," said Lt. Gus Villanueva of the /*Los Angeles Police Department*/. "Unfortunately, as in most of our crimes, the victim does not know who the suspect is in this case."

Police said the victim and her attacker were at a nearby bar on the 700 block of La Brea Avenue.

"We believe there may have been some type of dispute prior to the actual attack," Villanueva said.

Cristian Derek and Sarah Raisian say they walk this stretch of La Brea Avenue almost every night.

"I generally don't feel like I have to worry about other people," Raisian said.

Police said the suspect got into a car and left the scene. He's described as a Hispanic male, possibly in his 20s.

Anyone who recognizes the man in the video or with information about the incident is asked to call police at (877) 527-3247.
