1 killed, 1 injured in Lancaster house fire

LANCASTER, Calif. Neighbors said they heard an explosion and then saw a house engulfed in flames.

The fire started around 10:30 p.m. Thursday in Lancaster. Firefighters said a husband and his wife were inside the house.

Neighbor David Webb said he heard the explosions before the fire.

"I thought it was one of the sonic booms from the Air Force base, because it literally shook my house," said Webb. "When the second explosion hit, I ran out the front door and saw everything. I went back inside and told my wife to call the fire department."

Witnesses said the man got out of the house through the back door, and he appeared to be scorched. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for second-degree burn.

Officials said the woman may have been sleeping, and she was not able to get out because the fire happened so quickly.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
