Peanuts during pregnancy may cause allergies

NEW YORK Researchers in New York evaluated more than 500 infants who had already tested positive for milk or egg allergies, which were factors that are associated with peanut allergies.

According to the study, the more peanuts mothers ate during pregnancy, the more likely their babies tested positive for sensitivity to peanuts.

The findings support a recommendation that women with a family history of allergies avoid eating peanuts while pregnant and breastfeeding.

This recommendation was previously withdrawn in 2008 because there wasn't enough scientific evidence.
