Missing hiker rescued after three days lost

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. Scott Gossard, 44, of Anaheim was last heard from late Friday. He was found Monday afternoon - tired, hungry and thirsty after spending three days trapped in the San Gabriel Wilderness near the Buckhorn area.

Gossard, an experienced hiker, left his home in Anaheim Friday night with plans to hike and return the next day. But during the hike Gossard said temperatures dropped and turned rain to snow with white out conditions.

By Monday morning family called Anaheim Police to report Gossard missing. The Montrose Search and Rescue team with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department began looking for him.

Shortly after 2 p.m. Monday he was spotted along a ridge and airlifted back to safety. Despite his bumps and bruises, Gossard said he's learned a lesson.

"I still love to hike and it's a great thing to do but you have to be smart about it. I let my hubris get the best of me."
